Blackmagic Design’s PYXIS 12K is a state-of-the-art digital film camera with a customizable form factor that lets you build the perfect camera rig for every shot. The PYXIS 12K features an advanced 12,288- x 8,040-pixel full-frame (36 x 24mm), large-format RGBW sensor with a built-in optical lowpass filter and a staggering 16 stops of dynamic range capable of capturing stunning high-dynamic-range (HDR) imagery — all in a rugged, compact body with versatile mounting options and side plates. Compatible with a comprehensive ecosystem of industry-standard accessories and post-production solutions like the included DaVinci Resolve Studio, the PYXIS 12K is designed to capture the emotive heart of your story, complete with the distinctive look and feel you’re going for.
Lens mount options
The Blackmagic Design PYXIS 12K is available in three models, with the lone difference among them being the fixed lens mount. The PYXIS 12K PL, PYXIS 12K EF, and PYXIS 12K L are equipped with ARRI PL, Canon EF, and Leica L mounts, respectively. All models are equipped with a 4-inch HDR LCD monitor touchscreen, a mini-XLR microphone input with 48V phantom power, 12G-SDI and viewfinder USB-C video outputs, a reference time code input port, and more. Offering simultaneous support for 12-bit Blackmagic RAW and ultra-compact H.264 proxies files, two CFexpress media recorders are provided as well as Ethernet for live syncing to Blackmagic Cloud.

The sensor’s impressive resolution, combined with a unique multi-scale architecture designed for in-sensor scaling, allows you to record at all resolutions, employ a shallow depth of field, and use anamorphic lenses for a true cinematic aesthetic — all without cropping! Additionally, a hefty 16-stop dynamic range and dual-native ISO up to 25,600 guarantee low-noise imagery even in dim lighting conditions, so you can set up your shots for creative effect, unconstrained by the limitations of your camera.
Flexible large-format capabilities
The large-format sensor in the PYXIS 12K gives directors maximum flexibility in choosing aspect ratios, lenses, and delivery formats for their projects. The full sensor area provides a magnificent 12K 3:2 open-gate image that lets you reframe your shots in post. Use that expansive sensor area to shoot 6:5 true anamorphic and deliver in an array of aspect ratios. Plus, you can shoot in 4K, 8K, or 12K using the entire sensor without cropping while retaining your lenses’ full available field of view. The PYXIS 12K even offers Super 35 9K in 3:2, 16:9, 17:9, 2.4:1, and 6:5 aspect ratios. This unprecedented flexibility lets you create distinctive-looking content at the highest quality.
Easily accommodates custom rigs
Built from lightweight yet rugged aerospace-grade aluminum, the PYXIS 12K lends itself to custom rigging to suit the requirements of any production. Whether your scene calls for a continuous Steadicam tracking shot or a complex flyover maneuver, the PYXIS 12K obliges with multiple threads that make gimbal, drone, and crane mounting a cinch. The camera includes a side plate with two 1/4-20 and one 3/8-16 threads plus an SSD plate, with an optional rosette plate available separately. You can pair the PYXIS 12K with an optional Pro Handle or Pro Grip for fast-paced, ENG-style run-and-gun shooting where secure handheld operation is a must. With the sheer variety of mounting options for attaching handgrips, microphones, SSD recorders, and more, the PYXIS 12K sets a new standard for versatility in digital film cameras.
